Powerful file searcher retrieves text in documents, spreadsheets, eBooks and in code.
AnyTXT Searcher is a free, powerful file retriever utility that saves you hours of searching for the file(s) containing the text you’re looking for. Fast and targeted, it will search text in files of the file type you select so that the search returns only what is relevant. The freeware file searcher checks all the files on your hard drive instantly.
A high-speed indexing system combines with a powerful parsing engine to find text in seconds. All common file formats are compatible including plain text files, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, WPS document, spreadsheet and files, PDF and eBook epub, mobi, fb2 formats, and more.
A simple user interface makes searching text in files quick and easy
Downloaded, installed, and launched, you’ll find the AnyTXt Searcher interface easy to navigate. A search box is positioned beneath a menu bar with File, Edit, Tool, and Help tabs at the top of the screen. Dropdown drive and file type selection tabs are positioned alongside the search field, as well as a ‘Go’ button.
Once your first search is initiated, the program will index all the files found on the selected drive. This index will be maintained for all future searches. Input the text you want to search in the search field, and select the drive you want to search and the file format. *.* is also available for searching all files if you are unsure of the extension. Click the ‘Go’ button or use your keyboard ‘Enter’ key.
Search results are listed in the main area of the window tabulated under Name, Path, Type, Modified, and Size. The order can be changed by clicking on the respective column name. The number of files searched and the time taken is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
You can preview any file by hovering your mouse over it – no need to open it to see the selected text. Once you have previewed the file you’re looking for, you can double click to open it in the program specified for its file type. A right-click Explorer-type context menu is available for quick access to other programs and functions.
Many file searcher options
The ‘Edit’ tab has, in addition to the expected Cut, Copy and Delete, has a ‘Locate’ button which will display the selected file’s location in Explorer.
The ‘Tool’ tab enables you to select fuzzy or whole match, change the language, and access to the Index Manager. The Index manager controls updating and index service which provides inclusion and exclusion options for extensions and paths.
Updating can be set automatically to 30-minute or hourly, or you can update manually anytime using the Update Now option. You can also stop automatic indexing by accessing AnyTxt Searcher in your computer’s services menu and changing it to manual.
AnyTxt Searcher will search text in files to save you a great deal of wasted time in searching when you’ve forgotten a file name, the file format you used, or when you don’t remember where you previously used a piece of code. Supporting a wide range of formats – including Full-Text Index, it is compatible with all recent versions of Windows and is available in several languages.
